Brush Fire Season is Here
Spring is here and many of you are spending time in your yards getting ready for the summer and spring cleaning. With Spring cleaning comes brush and wild land fires. Over the past few weeks we have been called to numerous brush fires. Many times the fire was a result of careless burning. Please if you are cleaning and burning stay aware of the weather conditions, dry days with low humidity and winds are days when it is dangerous to burn. If you do burn, you should stay with the fire at all times and have a hose and rake near the fire. Just leaving the fire for a few minutes could result in a large brush fire and worse yet a home or other building burning.

Lehman Fire Attends Fire Technology Weekend
May 2nd and 3rd, found eight of our firefighters training at the Public Training Safety Institute of Luzerne County Community College. Our firefighters broke into three groups, and each group attended a specialized training program. One group concentrated in Engine Company Operations, while another group attended a Truck Company 2 Operations class and the third group training in elevator emergencies.
Instructors included instructors from the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy, a retired firefighter and instructor from Fairfax County Virginia, Capt. Mike Morris and a crew from FDNY were also in attendance teaching the Trucks 2 and Elevator Emergencies.
The Engine Company class had an opportunity to utilize the new burn building at the Public Safety Training Center. This was the first time Fire Fighter Mark Finarelli had a chance to at the new center. He stated he was pleased with the experience at the center and looks forward to additional training this summer.
Members of the Truck Company Operations class had an excellent learning experience. Capt. Mike Morris and Fire Fighter Bill Owens from FDNY's Rescue 1 worked the guys and provided an aggressive hands on experience in forcible entry, ventilation and rescue techniques. As an added experience members of Lehman had a chance to Work with Bill Owens who started his fire fighting carrier at Lehman.
Members of Rescue 1, also presented a program on elevator emergencies. This program was great learning experience for our fire and rescue chief's. As time goes our coverage area continues to see added challenges. Over the past few years The Penn State Campus has added additional facilities which include elevators. This training will allow our fire fighters will now have a working knowledge should an elevator emergency arise. Training included hydraulic and cable with counter weight awareness and response.
